Harpist Edmar Castañeda leads first Fall 2018 Dominican Republic Jazz Festival music workshop
Before wowing a crowd of jazz lovers later that evening, Colombian harpist Edmar Castañeda led a free music workshop in the auditorium of Centro León in Santiago, Dominican Republic, the morning of 26 October, 2018. About 200 children from different educational institutions participated in this wonderful workshop exploring the rhythm of the joropo, a traditional genre of music and dance from Venezuela and Colombia.
This event was presented by FEDUJAZZ and its sponsors as a part of the annual series of free music education workshops, in which Dominican Republic Jazz Festival artists teach local children about their particular genre of music. The children gain valuable firsthand exposure to diverse artists from around the world, giving them insight into applied music theory, various cultures, and new instruments. The next free musical workshop for children will be held 31 October 2018 at 10:30am. View the full program of workshops, concerts and other activities right here!
