Workshops[br][br]

Each year, the Jazz Festival Dominican Republic invites students of all schools in Sosua and Cabarete to participate in music workshops led by internationally renowned musicians (Marco Pignataro, Bernie Williams, Abraham Laboriel, Rufus Reid, Richie Flores, Billy Drummond, George Garzone, Matt Marvuglio, Alex Acuna, Horacio Hernandez…) being carried out at the same time in the festival program and internationally recognized faculty.[br][br]

It is a wonderful opportunity to open their minds to the unlimited possibilities and we hope to spark interest in music as many young people as possible and to introduce them to different genres of music. Reaching the youngest citizens has been an integral part of the Jazz Festival and traditionally all day Saturday is dedicated to students.

The DR Jazz Festival is privileged to have the experience of organizing committee member Ramon Vazquez at the forefront of education. Ramon is a professor and founding member of the New Jazz and Caribbean Music Department of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. Although we rely on the festival and local musicians to lead the workshops, Ramon is the educational force behind everything.

The workshops will be held in Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarete stages as well as in the Education Center Dream Project in the most disadvantaged of Cabarete. Funds to help achieve this long-anticipated goal made possible by the sale of VIP seats sold to individual sponsors and donations to the Foundation Jazz Festival Dominican Republic for Music Education.

Although the event is free and participation of their donations goes to this worthy cause.

The Festival offers transportation and a little snack to the students participating in workshops.

Last year in Sosua, 700 students participated and 300 in Cabarete, in addition to the students from our music program.
