Concert & Reception for FEDUJAZZ / Dominican Republic Jazz Festival at Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA, Wednesday, September 16, 2015, 6 to 8pm

FedujazzEvent_0468FEDUJAZZ, the non-profit music foundation benefiting youth of the Dominican Republic, hosted a press reception & concert on September 16, 2015 at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. The event celebrated the 19th Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, announcing the line-up for the upcoming festival, which is to be held November 4-8, 2015 on the north coast of the Dominican Republic.

In attendance were FEDUJAZZ / Dominican Republic Jazz Festival organizers Maria Elena Gratereaux and Anahid Avakian, along with Matt Marvuglio, Dean of the Performance Division, Berklee College of Music, Marco Pignataro, Managing Director, Berklee Global Jazz Institute, John Patitucci, Artist in Residence, Berklee Global Jazz Institute, Mia Olson, Professor, Woodwinds division, Berklee, Danilo Pérez, Grammy Award–winning pianist and Artistic Director of Berklee Global Jazz Institute, and jazz pianist Laszlo Gardony. Students of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute gave a special performance.

The Dominican Republic Jazz Festival is a free, multi-day event featuring the world’s best jazz artists. The festival is held annually on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, and combines culture, entertainment and youth education. The 19th edition will be held Nov. 4-8, 2015 in Santiago, Sosua, Puerto Plata and Cabarete, Dominican Republic.

Matt Marvuglio, Dean of the Performance Division at Berklee and Marco Pignataro, Managing Director of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute are joining the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival Artistic Advisory Board. John Patitucci, three time GRAMMY Award winner, and faculty member at the Performance Division of Berklee College of Music and the BGJI, will headline the 19th Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, Nov. 4-8, 2015, and students of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute will also perform at the festival.

The full line-up of artists scheduled for the festival includes: David Sánchez Quintet (Puerto Rico), Roy Assaf Trio (Israel), Pengbian Sang and Retro Jazz (Dominican Republic), Pedrito Martinez Group (Cuba), the Big Band Conservatory of Santo Domingo with Javier Vargas (Dominican Republic) Featuring Special Guests Jim Kelly, Jim Odgren and Jason Camelio (USA),  Manuel Tejada (Dominican Republic), the students of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute (USA),  Josean Jacobo (Dominican Republic), Mario Canonge Trio (France),  and the Student Loan String Band (USA).

The Festival brings together many Jazz masters, and is proud of the artistic representation of Dominican musicians (including The Big Band Conservatory of Santo Domingo, Pengbian Sang & Retro Jazz, Josean Jacobo and Manuel Tejada). The festival will pay special recognition to renowned Dominican artists Sandy Gabriel, Juan Colon and Crispin Fernandez, for their career accomplishments in Jazz showcasing our culture and supporting the musical development and attraction of the region.

The event offered a tasting of savory snacks and sweets popular in the Dominican Republic, and a toast by Ron Macorix, sponsor of the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival. The Dominican Republic Jazz Festival is presented by the Ministry of Tourism, and sponsored by Ron Macorix, JetBlue, the United States Embassy, Berklee Global Jazz Institute, Gratereaux Delva & Associates Law Firm, Sea Horse Ranch Luxury Resort, Ultravioleta Boutique Residences, Millennium Resort & Spa, Casa Linda, Israel Embassy, France Embassy, Centro Leon, Casa de Arte of Sosúa, Cibao Recycling, Ban Reservas, Viva Wyndham Resorts, Amhsa Marina, and Region Martinique.
